Love Baskets
The Heart of the Day of the Dead Silent Auction
This is an example of one of our Love Baskets, donated for our annual Day of the Dead silent auction. If you would like to honor someone you love with a Love Basket for the 2021 auction, contact John Gold today!
In memory of Corey Holmgren, our favorite daddy, beloved husband, best friend, loyal son, and a little bit annoying brother. This basket is a little bit of all his favorite things.
$25 books Wild at Heart was one of Corey’s favorite books (he had several!). It talks about the role of masculinity in contemporary Christian culture and how a man’s soul can be revived. A line he would quote often and share with his therapy clients (he was a Marriage and Family Therapist) is “Deep in his heart, every man longs for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue.” Captivating is a similar book but geared towards women. “Every woman in her heart of hearts longs for three things: to be romanced, to play an irreplaceable role in a great adventure, and to unveil beauty.”
$2 flag sticker and $5 Army Bible and notebook are all a nod to Corey’s service in the Utah Army National Guard where he served as a chaplain. At the time of his death, Corey was assigned to the 19th Group Special Forces. He had just completed Airborne school (jumping out of planes) and was looking forward to jumping with his unit. Sadly, he never got a chance.
$25 Singing bowl Corey loved singing bowls and meditating and learning about our chakras and how they were all connected with our physical bodies and …. 👇🏻
$15 yoga mat …and yoga. Corey loved combining yoga and meditation. He was in the process of creating his own program of meditations to work together towards emotional healing. He died before it was finished but we are so grateful to have about 80 recordings of Corey’s original meditations read by him.
$16 mug In all of Corey’s amazing-ness and wisdom, he loved to laugh and had such a contagious laugh at that! One of the many shows that brought out this laugh was The Office.
$20 gift card When you use this Coldstone Creamery gift card, consider ordering a Gotta Have It of their signature creation Germanchökolätekäke as an ode to Corey. He never ordered a different flavor because what if he didn’t like that as much?! And then he would be disappointed! And what a waste of an ice cream trip that would be.
$5 Oreos Now this one. This is very important. All Oreos are not created equal. For Corey, it’s all about the Thins. But not just any Thins, the plain Jane regular chocolate and vanilla. And don’t you dare dip those cookies in your milk. Then you’d get cookie crumbs in your milk and that’s a no-no. Corey’s very specific way of eating Oreo Thins are to put the whole cookie in your mouth at once, take a sip of milk, let it sit in your mouth for a couple seconds to get soft, and then you can chew and swallow.
$5 sunflower seeds Corey always snacked on sunflower seeds during a road trip. He said it was just enough of something to do to keep him awake but not too much snacking to make him too full to eat real food when we would stop for lunch or dinner. He’d keep an empty cup in one of the cup holders to spit the shells into. His wife thought this was gross 😅.
$6 Dr Pepper Does this one even need an explanation? Obviously this is the only soda worth drinking. Except Corey did have a Mt. Dew once in awhile. But he always came back to his actual favorite.
$10 Braveheart Corey’s favorite movie. He even had his own kilt.
